You will build skillsand understanding of setting up a clear project rationale together with the specific objectivesand the associated tasks and resources required to complete the objective within a definedbudget. This practical introduction will enable you to gain an insight into how projectmanagement will allow you to communicate progress and performance at each stage of yourproject.AIMSTo allow you to understand how to deliver specific objectives and integrate the necessaryresources to deliver a project on time and on budget.LEARNING OUTCOMESOn successful completion of this module a student will be able to: 1Present and agree a project proposal with client;2Use appropriate tools to collect, select and use information from a range ofsources;3Evaluate the data relevant to the proposal;4Communicate the outcomes and recommendations. LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODS It is important to maintain the interest of a diverse group of students by engaging them withdifferent approaches and experiences to business and organisational management.Therefore, tutors will utilise opportunities to include all students in peer-to-peer learning, toshare their diverse range of experiences, as well as grow their personal understanding of thecore elements of business practice and successful management. Students may come froma wide variety of backgrounds and may only have experienced business from a single pointperspective. Therefore, the content of this module is delivered in an accessible, stimulatingand globally-relevant manner, to meet the needs of a diverse community of learners whohave joined the programme with different professional approaches and experiences. Theprocess of learning requires the introduction of new subject knowledge, revision of thesubject knowledge and re-enforcement of the subject knowledge in relation to the widerprogramme knowledge base and its application. Thus, tutors will engage you in a dialoguethrough a variety of fora, such as seminars, workshops, presentations, debates and microteaching session to ensure that there is ample opportunity to complete the learning cycle.TIMETABLED TEACHINGYour timetable will detail the hours you spend with the tutor I class and the due dates for yoursummative assessment submission. In the module folder on the OLE you will also haveaccess to the teaching weekly teaching schedule. This schedule will direct you to what willbe covered in-class and indicate revision work to be done outside of class. This helps youapply the learning cycle model to support your learning and the retention of the subjectknowledge.In this Foundation module the focus will be on building your understanding of investigativemethods, defining and presenting project proposals together with developing conclusionsand recommendations arising from the project outcomes. As part of the learning cyclementioned above, your tutors will use lectures to build your subject knowledge and week byweek grow your understanding of the subject area being discussed. Subject knowledgerevision will help consolidate your learning from lectures will be achieved through debatesand discussions in class to allow the tutor to explore your understanding and the information you have acquired from the lecture. During your sessions your tutors will build yourknowledge of defined areas of business by getting you to practice your academic writingskills and provide you with feedback (what and how you have written) and feedforward (whatyou can do to improve your writing). It is important that you participate in class and allowyour tutor to monitor your pace of learning and identify any additional support you mayrequire. From each formative assessment you will be given feedback and importantly,feedforward. Your tutor will expect you use this feedforward constructively to enhance yourunderstanding and application of your subject knowledge.ASSESSMENTYou will be expected to submit both formative and summative assessments for this module.Formative assessment is a process to support your academic development through tutorfeedback and feedforward. Formative assessment is not graded but will assist you tounderstand the requirements of your summative assessment. This formative support willhelp you understand the summative assessment requirement and to improve yourconfidence in building your assessment techniques. Normally, you will be given clearassessment criteria as part of your assessment brief. This brief will be available from thebeginning of your module, and you will be required to submit a single substantive formativeassessment prior to your summative assessment. The timing of this this will normally bewithin a three-week period of the end of term. The formative opportunities are timed in sucha way as to allow you to reflect on any tutor feedback and feed forward prior to thesummative event. The formative feedforward given by the tutor will relate specifically tohow you have gone about the learning process, how you have acquired knowledge andyour understanding of how to apply your knowledge.Summative assessment is your final marked work that will be required to be submitted ontime. Summative assessments are graded pieces of work and form the basis ofprogression from the module. You will receive an assessment brief at the beginning of themodule that will clearly state the requirements of the assessment task and the assessmentcriteria used to mark your work. In preparing your assessment for submission you shouldread the brief and the assessment criteria carefully to make sure that you fully understandthe assessment. Any points that are unclear should be raised with your tutor. Theassessment criteria rubric will illustrate how your final mark has been calculated.Specifically, this Foundation level module seeks to develop your academic skills within thespecific area of defining and delivering a project. Your Summative Assessment you will bea written assessment that allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of investigativemethodologies and your ability to deliver outcomes directed at some of the contemporarychallenges or issues faced by businesses. This will require that you are able to apply yourknowledge as directed by the assignment brief and your tutor.
